"Social Media Love" began as a feeling about how cruel people have become online, saying and doing things they might never dare in person, face to face, as opposed to screen to screen. From there, it grew to an examination of how we present ourselves on social media: often idealized, beautiful people out to conquer the world, or at least a platform or two. Then comes the ironic celebration of the chorus where all is sweetness and light, unless you listen closely. The bridge reflects my love of faux sexy/creepy vibes in music and lyrics, and depicts an online sell-job. I wanted the final chorus to be a joyous indulgence in all we wish social media life could be, until we realize that real life and real love may be escaping us. Time for a shift, a break, maybe a reinvention of ourselves in a new light. Quite possibly not the light of a smart phone screen.
